Philip is one of the founding partners and holds a Bachelor of Legal Studies from Macquarie University. Philip was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1987 and to the Register of Practitioners of the High Court of Australia in the same year.

Philip is the Honorary Solicitor for Macquarie Soccer Football Association and is a former director of Northern New South Wales Soccer Football Federation Limited.

Philip practises in business and commercial law, estate planning, superannuation and trusts. Philip is a member of SMSF Professionals' Association of Australia.

Philip has an interest in beef cattle and crop farming and enjoys travelling in the desert regions of central Australia.

George holds a Diploma of Law from the Legal Practitioners Admission Board. George was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 2000 and admitted to the Register of Practitioners of the High Court of Australia in 2006.

After spending several years working within the health industry George joined O'Hearn Lawyers in 2000 and became a partner of the firm in July 2007.

George practises in commercial and business law, estate planning, employment law and trusts.

George is a former Secretary of the Wallsend Maryland Junior Rugby League Club and an honorary solicitor for the Heaton Birmingham Gardens Bowling Club.

George enjoys beach fishing and spending time with his family.

Ben holds a Bachelor of Commerce from The University of Newcastle and a Bachelor of Laws from Macquarie University. Ben was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and to the Register of Practitioners of the High Court of Australia in 2005. Ben became a member of Australian Restructuring Insolvency and Turnaround Association of Australia (ARITA) in 2009 and is a member of ARITA’s NSW Committee.

Ben began his career with O'Hearn Lawyers in 1997 and became a partner of the firm in 2007.

Ben practises in commercial and business law, insolvency and civil litigation.

Ben is a sporting enthusiast with a passion for mountain and trail bike riding, snowboarding and soccer.


Linda Hackney – Lawyer

Linda holds a Bachelor of Commerce from The University of Newcastle and a Diploma of Law from the Legal Practitioners Admission Board. Linda was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1996 and to the Register of Practitioners of the High Court of Australia in 2001.

Linda has been practising Family Law for over 15 years and prior to joining O'Hearn Lawyers in early 2007, Linda worked with the Commonwealth Attorney-Generals' Department and another Newcastle law firm.

Maryanne McGrath – Lawyer

Maryanne holds a Bachelor of Laws, a Diploma of Legal Practice and a Master of Medical Science (Health Promotion) from The University of Newcastle.

She was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the Supreme Court of Victoria in 2004 and admitted to Practice in the High Court of Australia in 2004.

In 2008 Maryanne joined the team at O'Hearn Lawyers and practises primarily in Family Law, Wills and Estate planning and contested estate matters as well as Criminal and Traffic Law.

Appointed to the NSW Legal Aid General Family Law Panel in December 2007, Maryanne also holds affiliations with the Law Society of New South Wales, the Hunter Valley Family Law Practitioners Association and the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia.

Outside of work, Maryanne's interests include tennis, cycling, walking and gardening.


Sharnie Leith – Lawyer

Sharnie holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Finance from the University of Newcastle. She also holds a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law.

Sharnie was admitted to the Supreme Court of NSW on the 27 May 2011, and admitted to the Register of Practitioners of the High Court of Australia in June 2011. Sharnie has previously worked in the research department of a multi-national law firm, the contracts team at Boeing Defense Australia and in private practice on the Central Coast.

Sharnie joined our firm in 2013 and practices in commercial, business, insolvency law and civil litigation.

Outside of work Sharnie enjoys playing netball, tennis, gardening and volunteering for Aunties and Uncles, Wesley Mission Australia.

Sigrid holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Communications (majoring in Journalism and Media Studies) from the University of Newcastle. She also holds a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law.

Sigrid was admitted to the Supreme Court of NSW on the 13 April 2012. Sigrid has previously worked as law clerk before admission and then a solicitor following admission, in another local boutique firm for three years.

Sigrid joined our firm in 2014 and practises in commercial, business, insolvency law, civil litigation, intellectual property, property law and costs assessment.

Before deciding to become a lawyer Sigrid interned as a features journalist on various Australian women’s magazines.

Robert holds a Bachelor of Business and a Bachelor of Laws/Diploma of Legal Practice from The University of Newcastle.

Robert was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales on 21 February 2014.

Robert joined our firm in 2014 and practises in civil litigation, debt recovery and property law.

Robert is a fishing enthusiast and enjoys all types of fishing around the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie area.


Peter Hawkins – Licensed Conveyancer

Peter holds a diploma in Conveyancing Law and Practice from Macquarie University and has been practising as a licensed Conveyancer for over 40 years. Peter has contributed his wealth of knowledge and experience to O'Hearn Lawyers' clients for the past 14 years.

Peter has extensive knowledge of old system title, easements and restrictions on land and property development generally.

Peter loves spending time with his family, has a keen interest for rugby and enjoys the occasional relaxing round of golf.

He was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and to the Register of Practitioners of the High Court of Australia in 1987. John is a member of Australian Restructuring Insolvency and Turnaround Association of Australia, a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Australia. He is also an Accredited Mediator and an accredited specialist in advocacy under the Law Society’s specialist accreditation scheme.

John became a consultant of the firm in 2014.

John is a sporting enthusiast and plays competition tennis.
